John Gray on Radio 4

It looks like this might be worth a listen, later in the week – John Gray talking about how critics of religion often misunderstand what ‘religion’ actually is for most people (particularly in the non-western world); thinking it’s a list of propositions that you sign up to, as opposed to something you ‘do’ or ‘become’ – this is sometimes talked about as ‘orthodoxy’ versus ‘orthopraxy’. Terry Eagleton addresses something similar in his own wry style in Reason, Faith, and Revolution. Here he is at Edinburgh University not so long ago:
